2010 Mayor's Artists Awards

Presented by the Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office and the Utah Arts Festival

Since 1992, the Salt Lake City Mayor's Office has honored the contributions that artists and organizations make to the cultural life of our community. Awards are presented to recipients in the following categories: Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Literary Arts and Service to the Arts.

The Mayor's office will publicly honor the 2010 recipients on Friday on the Festival Stage at 7:30 p.m.

2010 Recipients

teresaflowersVisual Arts: Teresa Flowers

Teresa Flowers is an internationally recognized artist based in Salt Lake City. Her work has been published in Shots Fine Art Photography Magazine, Photo District News, Blacks and White Magazine and Jane magazine. She has won multiple awards including Fine Art Photographer of the Year and earned a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Her paintings and photographs have been show in London, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. In 2004, she founded the Women's Art Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women in the arts.

Performing Arts: Richard Scott

Richard Scott is the Executive and Artistic Director for the Grand Theater and the Grand Theater Community Institute. He has more than 25 years of theater experience as a producer, director, actor and instructor. He has worked with many of Utah's theater companies including Pioneer Theater Company, Salt Lake Acting Company, Sundance Summer & Children's Theater, Utah Contemporary Theater and the Egyptian Theater in Park City. Richard has served on the Utah Arts Council panels and has devoted his time and energy to build community relations through the arts.

Service to the Arts by an Individual: Dan Miller

For more than 30 years, Dan Miller has served Salt Lake City and most of Utah's artistic community. His company, Mills Publishing, has worked in conjunction with the many of the city's non-profit arts organizations providing artists with professional programs for performances and events. He has dedicated his time and business experience as Board President for Salt Lake Acting Company and Ballet West. His tireless work helps artists present themselves beautifully.

Service to the Arts by an Individual: Jeff Lambson

Born in Salt Lake City and raised in St. Louis, Jeff Lambson is curator of contemporary art at the BYU Museum of Art (MOA) in Provo, Utah. From 2001 to 2007, he worked at the Smithsonian Institution's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC. Some projects he has worked on include the major Ana Mendieta retrospective which opened at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and "Guillermo Kuitca: Everything," co-organized by the Hirshhorn, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Walker Art Center, and the Miami Art Museum, which will travel to the Guggenheim Bilbao. Since arriving at the MOA he has curated "Dan Steinhilber," "Mirror Mirror: Contemporary Portraits and the Fugitive Self," and is organizing "The Matter of Words." Jeff received his Master's degree in art history and curatorial studies from BYU. He is married to Ann Lambson, curator of the exhibition gallery "Education in Zion" at BYU, and lives in Provo with their precocious daughter Elizabeth.

Service to the Arts by an Organization: Saltgrass Printmakers

mayors2010-SaltgrassPrintmakers1Saltgrass Printmakers is a non-profit open printmaking studio located in Salt Lake City's Sugarhouse neighborhood. Saltgrass offers equipment and space for both professional and amateur artists, generates classes and workshops for youth groups, schools and members of the community. The studio brings renowned national and international artists to Salt Lake City to conduct workshops, give lectures and create art. Saltgrass engages the community and increases the appreciation for and understanding of prints and printmaking.

Public Awards Ceremony

Mayor Becker will publicly honor this year’s recipients at the Festival on Friday, June 25 at 7:30 p.m. on the Festival Stage.

Selection Process

Nominees for the MAYOR’S ARTISTS AWARDS are juried by a panel including representatives from the Office of the Mayor, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, the Utah Arts Festival and past recipients of the Awards.
