WAR! What better word to rouse a crowd in a political year like this
one? In 2008 we are certainly divided, undoubtedly conflicted, and
desperately exhausted of our situation. And we're not even talking about
Iraq or Afghanistan. We're talking about the politics we all share of
identity and of being human.
From the pundits and party level to the semiotic and the subconscious,
Fear No Film 2008 presents the works of dozens of filmmakers who,
knowingly or not, are somehow messing with your paradigm. During each
screening you might lean a bit to the left, get inspired by a director's
individual triumphs or become mired in their agonizing inner quicksands.
So bring on the parade of our public and private wars.
With ALL POLITICAL PUN, INNUENDO, AND SEMIOTIC RAH-RAH INTENDED, Fear No
Film 2008 asks you to fear no filmmaker visions that:
- Lean to the LEFT! (politically)
- Lean to the RIGHT! (politically)
- STAND UP! (and do something)
- SIT DOWN! (and think about something)
- FIGHT! (internal struggle)
- FIGHT! (inter-personal conflict)
- FIGHT! (societal or global)
Sampling of 2008 Films
Lean to the LEFT! - THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE
Lamy, New Mexico - Coffins,
fresh graves and a parade of odd funerals provide the backdrop for one
family's affection. This brave, quirky film is a surprising reminder
that there are a lot of us out there, each delightfully unique in what
makes us happy.
Lean to the RIGHT! - A DIAMOND FORMS UNDER PRESSURE
Dublin, Ireland -
An anomaly existing somewhere between experimental film and music video,
the soundtrack is an electronic improvisation comprised of sine waves
and bowed glockenspiel as sound sources... Very, very Radiohead. With
it's constantly fluctuating, self-regulating image, A DIAMOND FORMS
UNDER PRESSURE is how Adam Smith must have dreamt about economics.
STAND UP! (and do something) - CUTTING A RUG, TURNING THE WHEEL: BEATS
AND BUDDHISM IN NORTHERN INDIA
Boston, Massachusetts - Even if you have
no interest whatsoever in trekking into Northern India to teach kids to
breakdance, this movie really makes you want to stand up and do
something more with yourself.
SIT DOWN! (and think about something) - THE LAND BEYOND EXPLANATION
Los
Angeles, California - Umm... Microcinema, avant-garde, fantasy,
independent, magical realism, post modern, cultural, artistic,
spiritual, and really, really out there in a delightful way. If you're
pondering and you know it clap your hands.
FIGHT! (internal struggle) - SOLILOQUY
Huntsville, Alabama - "You can't
touch this voice, you can't touch this idea. You can't touch light
either, but they told you light was real." Is this really a movie? Or
could it be your brains way of telling you that you don't exist? Ouch.
My paradigm hurts.
FIGHT! (inter-personal conflict) - MADE IN JAPAN

Madrid, Spain - A funny
little story that zigs and zags so rapidly across time zones that you
wonder if you just missed something.
FIGHT! (societal or global) - RABIA
Avon, Colorado - Writer / Director
Muhammad Ali Hasan currently serves as a political commentator for Fox
News, MSNBC, and BBC Radio, and is a former regular guest of Politically
Incorrect with Bill Maher. Muhammad's motivation in making RABIA is to
open a dialogue about today's global conflicts; he is completely against
all forms of suicide bombing and terrorism.
