Welcome to September!
Whew! What a summer it’s been! It takes us until about the end of July to put the Festival to bed – think post-Holidays: putting away all the decorations, cleaning up, paying the bills, sending the thank you letters out…and you get the picture! We had a great Festival this year – in spite of the little rain storm Friday night!
The staff spent time in August on a retreat reviewing the past year’s programs and coming up with some great ideas for 2010. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions about the Festival, don’t hesitate to send me a quick email: lisa@uaf.org – we’d love to hear what you’re thinking.
We also took a week to deep-clean and re-paint our gallery/office space in preparation for the first gallery stroll of the fall season. galleryuaf, the Utah Arts Festival’s art gallery, re-opens with the September show and features monthly shows through May, 2010. The artist’s reception will be held on Friday, September 18th from 6-9 pm. Come down and check out our show and all the other galleries and artist’s studios that will be open that evening at Artspace City Center (230 S 500 W).

Earth Texture by Jayne-Anne Mulholland
galleryuaf will feature the oil on canvas works of Jayne-Anne Mulholland in Earth Texture, September 18 through October 9. Earth Texture is a collection of paintings inspired by elements of our planet – lichen, stone, water, fire, the way the land looks from high above the ground. Mulholland uses soluble and insoluble paints to create her work. She says, “I am fascinated by the alchemistic aspects of painting. Miracles that are beyond me seem to come from the reactionary process I use.” Jayne-Anne Mulholland was born in Utah. She has a BS in Painting and Drawing and a BFA in Theatre Studies, both from the University of Utah.
Also be sure to stop by the Utah Arts Festival offices galleryuaf during the monthly Gallery Stroll on September 18.
Artwork 2010
For the past two years now the Utah Arts Festival has purchased the work of a Utah artist to represent the annual Utah Arts Festival. In 2008 we worked with Meri DeCaria and this year we featured the work of Trent Call. We’re in the process of looking at new artists for the 34th annual Utah Arts Festival. If you’re an artist or know an artist, send them our way!
Deadline for submission is October 16. For more information, contact Lisa at lisa@uaf.org or 801-322-2428.
