Random Acts of Art Invade Salt Lake City and the Festival Grounds

knittingHelp wrap the Festival in sweaters. Join rogue knitters on Saturday, June 18, on Washington Square to cover light posts, parking meters benches and trees in yarn. During the Festival knitters are invited to add to the giant “sweater.”

We welcome all knitters to become part of this movement!

Random Acts of Art Knitting Installation

Saturday, June 18, 9 am–Noon, Washington Square

Meet at the flag pole on the east side of the City and County Building (200 East at around 450 South). Our installation will continue until noon and then we will begin the World Wide Knit in Public Day and continue stitching until about 5pm.

We will provide cable, zip ties, and wire to help with the installation. You chould bring your yarn art, scissors, darning needle or crochet hook (depending on how you plan to install your yarn art), extra yarn or string if needed. All donations are very welcome.

World Knit-in-Public Day Celebration

Saturday, June 18, noon–5 pm, Washington Square

Join knitters world wide in the annual World Wide Knit in Public Day. You may want to pack a lunch and bring something to drink. A lawn chair or camp chair might also be a good idea. And of course, bring your knitting project or projects.

Random Acts of Art Knit-In

Daily during the Festival, June 23–26 near City County Building

Our during-the-Festival Knit-In will be held near other great yarn installments, yet to be unveiled. Bring your projects and knit while listening to the ambience at the Utah Arts Festival.

Pre-Festival Installments

This Yarn Bombing effort is not limited to just the Festival Grounds. Knitters have already installed Random Acts of Art around Salt Lake City.

Lake Bonneville Crochet Reef

Brolly Arts and Great Salt Lake Institute present the Lake Bonneville Crochet Reef, a community art and science project. Learn about the ecology of the Great Salt Lake, the history of ancient Lake Bonneville, and help create the hyperbolic crochet coral reef which will be exhibited to the public this fall at Westminster College.

The Lake Bonneville Crochet Reef is a satellite of the worldwide Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef Project created by Margaret and Christine WErtheitm of the Institute for Figuring in Los Angeles. For more informatoion, contact Brolly Arts at brolly@brollyarts.org.
